Exemplary car: car model combining 5 technologies at once

3D-printing can be good both by itself and combined with other technologies. There can be no disputing about it. Prototypster uses tricks to show it to you. Among the latest examples there’s a car model of a well-known German vehicle manufacturer.

“I want to create something different, somewhat unlike anything else,” – says Valeriya Ruchyova, a novice industrial designer, about her personal approach to the profession.

One of our specialists has modelled a car of his favourite car maker in German car industry (which is too famous to call). Our team evaluated the 3D model and determined that the model would become an excellent example of all the technologies used by LOGEEKs and Prototypster. As a result the model was shown at ROSMOLD-2014 Exhibition.

The tire-covers are made of polyurethane rubber. The disks on the right side are made of polyamide. On the left side – from aluminum.

The car was produced combining 5 technologies:

• Milling of aluminum using five-axis machine;
• Milling of model plastic;
• molding of polyurethane in a silicone form;
• PolyJet 3D printing technology (curing liquid photopolymer with ultraviolet rays);
• Selective laser sintering of polyamide powder (SLS).

The two of the wheels and a mirror were manufactured with the help of 5-axis milling of aluminum. The two of the wheels and windscreen wipers were additive manufactured from polyamide. Tires were made from polyurethane rubber by molding in a silicone mold. In turn, the silicone mold was made by a master model of tires additive manufactured from photopolymer under PolyJet technology.
